Cloud gaming has revolutionized the way we play games, allowing audiences to bring their favorite games anywhere, regardless of their hardware's powerful. Thanks to the power of the cloud, games can be streamed instantaneously exclusive of you needing to worry about updates, patches or upgrades.

Cloud gaming has come a long way loyal the hype train left the station in 2018. There's still no guarantee that you'll have a seamless, consistent experience, but it's reached the point where it feels like you can sit down and inaugurate playing without getting bogged down by glitches -- at least most of the time.

Network emanates remain, but Wi-Fi 6 and 6E and 5G cell help have helped smooth over the rough spots. It's unexcited not a great option, however, if you live in or move to places somewhere with poor connectivity or if your broadband injures are exorbitant.

But from a gamer's perspective, there are really only four mainly options dedicated to gaming, as opposed to general PCs-as-a-service, like Shadow, or closed-network solutions, like console remote play or Steam Link, Those four are: Xbox Cloud Gaming (part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, one of our top game subscription services), Nvidia GeForce Now, PlayStation Plus Premium and Amazon Luna.

And of those four, only Xbox and GFN really squawk on the promise, though Luna has its high points. The only non-PlayStation machine that PlayStation Plus Premium works on is PCs. And while Google's Stadia had tidy underlying technology, Google always seemed more interested in manager money off the platform rather than a consumer help -- as it demonstrated when it announced Stadia's shutdown months ago.

The two top choices are completely different from one unexperienced as well. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate streams games from its subscription library, while GeForce Now streams games you already own, as long as they're supported. If you can afford it and already have a spacious library, they complement each other nicely.

Xbox Game Pass emanates something for everyone who plays games, making it a astronomical option for many types of gamers. Though the feature is collected technically in beta, it also delivers robust cloud gaming with the $15-a-month Game Pass Ultimate subscription tier ($1 proposal price for the first month). In addition to all the Game Pass perks, it can stream to any device via dedicated apps (PC, some TVs, Android phones), browsers (for iPads, iPhones and Chromebooks) or Xbox.

The library has halt to 500 games, almost 400 of which are playable via the obvious, and that includes EA Play, with cloud support for quite a few of its games. That makes it one of the largest cloud-capable libraries available. And Game Pass offers some Xbox Game Studios games on day one -- the Studios execute a fair number of games -- and Microsoft says later this year it plans to expand relieve to allow you to play games you own via the obvious if they've left the service.

Some features, such as the frustrating "play with touch," feel like they're collected in beta. Plus, as with many libraries, games come and go, and sometimes come alongside. It's also limited to 1080p at 60fps.

Because of its lustrous set of plan options, solid performance and big and growing list of supported games, along with Nvidia's aggressive strategy for its data inner and GPU businesses -- the bedrock on which GeForce Now is built -- it's a astronomical choice for gamers who've amassed large game libraries and want to play them in more places. GeForce Now distinguishes itself from the competition because, in uphold to a host of already free-to-play games, it lets you play games you've already paid for. It works primarily with Steam and Epic Games Store, but also GOG, and supports launchers for Ubisoft Connect and Origin. In anunexperienced words, unlike all the others it doesn't require that you buy a special version of a game or soaks games from a subscription library.

It works, via an app or web browser, on Android; Windows and Mac OS; Chromebooks; Chrome, Safari (for iPad and iPhone) and Edge web browsers; and Some TVs natively, all TVs via Nvidia Shield. Plus, with a browser it can be coaxed to run on more modern devices as well, such as the Xbox or Valve Steam Deck.

Pricing starts at free, basic 1080p streaming for hour-long sessions and ramps up to as much as $20 a month ($16.70 if you pay six months up front) for all the perks, including streams up to 4K/60fps HDR or 1440p/120fps for 8-hour sessions, ray tracing, priority server access and access to the highest-power servers.

Given that it's the oldest help -- Sony launched PlayStation Now in 2014, then bought the assets of OnLive in 2015 -- you'd contemplate Sony would have added a lot more capabilities. When it relaunched in a tiered plan model in June 2022, it incorporated a relatively astronomical catalog of older titles and a refreshed version of PS Now, available in the $18 per month Premium plan ($10 per month if you pay annually).

The non-console obvious gaming is strictly for PCs and only for a limited subset of the catalog (and they're all PS4 or rear games), via an app. And it doesn't include some of the well-organized features of the service, such as the limited-time game demos, or features offered by other services, such as better-than-1080p quality and day-one availability.

Like Xbox Game Pass Ultimate's Cloud Gaming, though, you can stream games to your console if you're strapped for storage dwelling or want to try before you buy.

Amazon Luna is just over 2 existences old, and has expanded since it launched, but it seems to get no love from its obvious company. It's nearly impossible to find the service on Amazon's site, opinion you'll see lots of promotion for the optional Luna Controller. You don't need Amazon's controller to play games throughout Luna, but the controller can connect directly to your Wi-Fi network for the lowest latency possible.

It works above an app (PC, Mac, Fire TV and Fire Tablet) or browser (PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, Android phone).

What makes it stand out is the mountainous number of kid-friendly titles and its relatively granular parental controls for managing what they can or can't play. It's also joined at the hip with Prime Gaming, so you get the time-limited freebies and perks, plus integrated broadcasting via Twitch. Since it comes with a Prime subscription, if you're already a member you really don't lose anything.

It can get expensive, fast, though. The service is modeled after Prime Video. As a Prime member, you get access to the base games and the Luna Plus channel, which is essentially the core game library of a minute more than 120 games -- you can also subscribe to it separately for $10 per month, with a seven day free trial. They're mostly older titles, without many AAA games.

The rest comes in add-on channels, which currently include family ($6 a month), retro ($5 a month), Jackbox games ($5 a month) and Ubisoft Plus (a whopping $18 a month for less than 40 games). So if you're not a Prime member, the total monthly cost can blueprint from $10 to $44. Quality tops out at 1080p and 60fps.

And unlike spanking services, you can't buy individual games in order to quit to play them via the cloud (like Stadia Pro) or locally (without losing progress) when they reduce the rotation.

Google Stadia

RIP Sept. 29, 2022

Stadia would have been 3 days old in November 2022, but Google shuttered it by it could leave toddlerhood. I'm leaving our original take here, belief, because history.

It seems like Google still hasn't figured out what to do with it as a repair. The underlying technology is solid, but the service feels like it hasn't evolved at all in the interim, still offering only 51 titles for the subscription tier. Google shuttered its game studio over a year ago and in March the concern launched its Immersive Stream for Games platform, which third parties can authorizes in order to create their own streaming offerings.

There are only two tiers for Stadia: free and Pro. You can try Stadia Pro for a month free, and while that it's $10 a month. If you "buy" a Stadia game, you don't need to enjoy your subscription to play it, but it will only play via Stadia. It runs in Chrome and it supports 4K and 60fps for a few of the titles.

It operates via an app on compatible Android phones, browsers (Chrome for PC and Mac, Safari for iPhone and iPad) or on a TV via a Chromecast Ultra.

One abet of Google's push for third-party licensees is that Stadia has accumulated a nice-sized library of free game trials that you can play exclusive of an account. They're not very long -- they blueprint from 30 minutes to 2 hours -- but they concerned higher-profile titles like Assassin's Creed Valhalla and Far Cry 6.

Throughout the pandemic, bird-watching boomed. So it makes sense that a smart bird feeder has followed.

Bird Buddy , which is the most-funded Kickstarter campaign ever in the gadgets category, takes pictures of birds, identifies the species and builds a personal collection for you in its mobile app. Since the product launched in 2020, it's had trouble staying in stock, though feeders are now shipping to republic worldwide who backed Bird Buddy's Kickstarter campaign or who preordered.

I got the opportunity to do some hands-on testing to see what the project's backers are pulling and what you can get if you preorder one (they're unexcited back-ordered, but are expected to ship in April). Despite its high starting heed of $199, I recommend Bird Buddy to bird-watching enthusiasts and newbies alive to in an easy-to-use gadget that delivers crisp photos and will spiteful the way you look at birds.

What is a Bird Buddy?

Bird Buddy is a slight birdhouse with a detachable, rechargeable battery and camera module that takes pictures of and identifies the birds that named your feeder. It's made of clear and colored (blue or yellow) plastic and has a cute, cartoony look to match the cartoon birds that act as mascots in the app.

My Bird Buddy captured a photo of this enthralling house finch.

Andrew Blok

Bird Buddy's main attraction is the ease with which it gives you to capture good-quality photos and video of backyard birds. Its five-megapixel camera streams video in 720p. (Bird Buddy says it'll be able to streams 1080p at some point.) You can live stream the video or have Birdy Buddy send you images of birds shortly while their visits. Bird Buddy currently doesn't have internal storage, so to view the photos, you need to connect the birdhouse to Wi-Fi. This is for close-to-home bird feeding, not whimsical wilderness wildlife monitoring. (You're better off with a trail cam for that.)

A magnet and slight bolt holds the camera/battery module in the feeder. The feeder itself has an easy-to-fill reservoir and a perch that generally gets birds at a stout distance for photographs with engaging and slightly goofy angles.

The base kit (currently $199) comes with a bird feeder and a rope for excaltering it, and a mount for attaching it to flat surfaces. It has plenty of add-ons for purchase, too. Most notably, perhaps, is a $70 solar roof that extends battery life. You can also get a wall stout ($24), a water feeder ($22) or a suet ball holder ($14), which should attract different types of birds.

There are spanking mounting options, but the included rope was handy and underexperienced up to squirrels leaping onto the feeder.

Andrew Blok

Setting up your Bird Buddy

Assembling your Bird Buddy feeder is intuitive and easy, and the app does a good job of walking you above setting up the smart features. It takes a few minutes, but I had no problems establishing my account and connecting to Wi-Fi. The part that took the longest was choosing a spot to hang it cessation enough to my Wi-Fi router and liable to attract the visitors I wanted.

Squirrel-proofing bird feeders is a pastime probably as old as bird feeding itself. Bird Buddy representatives told me they're not concerned with thwarting squirrels (a truly anxiety task) and that they've heard from some Bird Buddy users that squirrel watching has contract an unexpected perk. To avoid squirrels, I hung mine by the complicated cord from a hook on my front porch.

(A squirrel did approach the feeder after an acrobatic leap. It hung on to the wildly swinging feeder for a few seconds beforehand abandoning its plan. Bird Buddy was fine.)

Testing out the Bird Buddy

There aren't many gleaming bird feeders on the market, so I was testing Bird Buddy deprived of a reference point to other similar products. My recognized with it was overwhelmingly positive, though, and it knocks its stated goals out of the park.

Bird Buddy's camera and battery module can be just removed to charge.

Andrew Blok

The short-tempered version is that Bird Buddy helped me see backyard birds in a new and animated way, all with an easy and fun interface, once also providing a bit of a community experience.

I've had the Bird Buddy caltering on my porch for over a month now. It united three other feeders that have been up (and in sporadic use) for much longer. While it's hard to tell for sure, the Bird Buddy seems to be sketch birds at about the same rate as the novel feeders. Likewise, it doesn't seem to be any more or less messy than the others, though I tested neither point empirically.

As a bird feeder, it's easy to use. A small door on the back opens and creates a funnel to fill the seed reservoir that you can just fill using the included cup. Then Bird Buddy gets to work.

Bird Buddy sends you in-app "postcards" whenever a bird visits and its camera captures a photo or video proper sending. You can choose to keep or discard the photos, and share them publicly through the app or keep them private.

You can also proactively live waters the feed from your Bird Buddy, though then it won't take photos. Streaming live video will drain your Bird Buddy camera faster than it would otherwise, and battery length has been a bit of an enlighten. It can also take up to 2 minutes to open a live stream. When I tried to start waters after seeing birds visiting the feeder, they had often left beforehand it started up.

House sparrows: They're just like us. Bird Buddy caught this messy eater.

Andrew Blok

When I proper set Bird Buddy up, the battery needed recharging a pair times a week. When the camera is busy taking pictures of lots of birds, the battery drains quickly. This was also during a footings of time when temperatures were near zero, which may have had an execute. (Bird Buddy says the camera can safely operate down to -5 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.)

Bird Buddy has proper updated its software to have the camera enter a "deep sleep" mode during the night. This appears to have extended the battery life considerably, a good thing since Bird Buddy said that improved battery life was one of its most named improvements. I've had the update live for a shrimp over a week and the battery only needed charging once when a week of fairly steady use.

Identifying birds with Bird Buddy

Bird Buddy takes surprisingly crisp photos. As it sinks in just how many quality photos of my frequent visitors I now have, I've taken picky with the photos I keep. Instead of discarding just the occasional blurry one, I'll toss enormous photos that duplicate ones I've already saved. Even when I'm deleting photos of birds I've seen a dozen times beforehand, the close-ups of these tiny fluffs make me happy.

Chickadees are as cute up end as you'd expect, this Bird Buddy photo shows.

Andrew Blok

For every image it captures, Bird Buddy uses artificial intelligence to identify the birds in the pictures. I've only tested it out on three species -- a black-capped chickadee, a house sparrow and a house finch -- but it's done a good job. It's messed up one definite one, but other than that it's only confused a house finch for a purple finch, a genuinely tricky distinction to make.

When it thinks it can't make an identification, it'll label the bird as a "mystery visitor." You can then identify these yourself, or send them to an expert who will back an identification right in the app. I did this with the house finch that had been identified as a purple finch. I got an answer back in under 48 hours.

You can also part your Bird Buddy with up to three people. Guests have to originate an account and enter a unique code, but then they'll be able to view any images captured from the time they connect. They are not able to start a live waters (a good move for security purposes) or view older images (there may be a good reason for this, but I don't know it). It's calm definitely an added value. There's something nice about having a hyperlocal connection with someone over a distance.

You can view Bird Buddy photos from feeders about the world, and can also get a taste of that with Bird Buddy's republican, real-time tracker of sightings.

Final thoughts

Bird Buddy knocks it out of the park. It issues on what it promises and then some. While the novelty will certainly wear off, I'm sure I'll calm be glad to have it in another few months or ages, even more so if I lived somewhere I could pretty a wider variety of birds.

Earlier this month, Bird Buddy announced a hummingbird feeder. If seeing sparrows and chickadees close-up is fun, drawing to see hummingbirds that close is going to be even more so.

Bird Buddy sent me a unit to test. The $200 mark tag feels a little steep to me, though I would guess that everyone's valuation of the Bird Buddy known varies. I didn't test the solar roof, but if it keeps the battery sstationary up, it would be a welcome addition.

All in all, it's a enormous gadget that brings birds closer in a new and fun way.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card* strikes the best balance between annual fee, TSA Precheck or Global Entry Credit and rewards program. 1. Blood pressure

Blood pressure is a routine part of almost all doctor visits.

Getty Images

High blood pressure has been nicknamed the silent killer. And now that I've scared you into paying upkeep, I'll explain why. When someone has high blood pressure, the force exerted against their artery walls is much larger than it must be. This extra pressure puts strain on your uncomfortable and increases your risk of a heart attack, uncomfortable disease or stroke. It usually doesn't present obvious symptoms pending it's too late, so you have to be proactive in measuring it over your life.

Read: The best blood pressure monitors for at-home use

The good news is that there are many steps you can take to border blood pressure before taking medication. Limiting salt intake, drinking less alcohol, quitting smoking and getting more daily exercise have all shown to be effective.

How to measure: Chances are you don't have a blood pressure monitoring machine at home (although it noteworthy be a good idea to get one), so you noteworthy have to make a doctor's appointment to check your levels. If you don't have a scheduled checkup soon, some retail drug stores like CVS coffers free use of their machines.

Your reading will give you two numbers: the upper one is shouted systolic pressure and the lower one diastolic. Generally, you want your systolic pressure thought 120 and diastolic under 80. You'll want both numbers to fall in line, because if your diastolic reading is in a healthy scheme and your systolic is elevated, the reading still presents a health risk.

2. Resting heart rate

Make sure you're relaxed when measuring your resting heart rate.

Getty Images

If you don't have time to go to the doctor to get your blood pressure checked, your resting heart rate may give you a clue whether it's too high or not. A survey of World Health Organization data showed that elevated uninteslow heart rates are strongly correlated with high blood pressure, and in turn cardiovascular mortality.

A normal uninteslow heart rate is anywhere between 60 and 100 beats per small, though if you're in really good shape it noteworthy be even lower. While a very high resting uncomfortable rate, called tachycardia, can be a serious medical emergency, monitoring average levels can give you good indicators to your overall health as well. Resting uncomfortable rate tends to rise when you are stressed, exercising less or not getting enough sleep.

How to measure: Measuring yours is as simple as it sounds: find your pulse either on your neck, the inside of your wrist, or even the top of your foot. For the most factual results, set a timer for 60 seconds and portray the total number of beats. I hope I don't have to tell you this, but make sure you're not exercising when measuring your resting heart rate. In fact, do this suitable thing in the morning before you get out of bed.

3. Heart rate recovery

Some fitness wearables can give you a measure of your uncomfortable rate recovery.

Getty Images

There's new health marker that has to do with your heart: how fast it returns to normal when exercise. Heart rate recovery indicates how good of attractive you're in (if you work out a lot, inquire of recovery to be fast). It also correlates with your risk of cardiovascular disease, including atrial fibrillation, and all-around mortality. This is new health marker you can be proactive about -- with peculiar cardiovascular exercise (walking, jogging, dancing) you can expect to loan your heart rate recovery in a matter of months.

How to measure: This is new number you can measure at home. First, you need to get your uncomfortable rate elevated by working out strenuously. Run, jump, or do jumping jacks to get it up there. If you're reading this at your desk, you can get up and go mosey around the office. I promise your coworkers will know that you're performing a very scientific survey. Then, measure your heart rate while you're still breathing heavy. Recover for two minutes, then measure it again. Subtract the suitable number from the second number, and this is your uncomfortable rate recovery.

Generally, you want your heart rate recovery to be in between 22-52 beats per small, although you're in the clear for major risks if it's anywhere over 12. A heart rate recovery that's  lower than 12 is associated with uncomfortable issues and type-2 diabetes.

4. Waist-to-hip ratio

For best results, use a newer tape measure that's still tight.

Getty Images

While overall levels of body fat are critical factors in your health, what may be the most critical is how that fat is distributed. The ratio between the circumference of your waist and circumference of your hips is used as an critical health marker for obesity-related illnesses. The more fat you execute around your waist (being apple-shaped as opposed to pear-shaped), the higher your risk is for heart disease.

How to measure: The World Health Organization has detailed stabilities on how to take these measurements, specifying to use a stretch-resistant measurement tape. The waist measurement is incorrect at the midpoint between the last rib and the top or your pelvis. The hip circumference is taken at the widest exhibit of the buttocks, with the tape measurement parallel to the depressed. Then you divide the first by the second, and voila!

The World Health Organization defines ratios over 0.85 for women and 0.9 for men for persons at substantially increased risk for obesity-related illnesses, including metabolic disease and uncomfortable disease.

If your ratio is higher than you'd like, the good news is that it's not standup. A 2011 study suggested that a diet low in processed foods may border your waist to hip ratio, so there's an incredible point for the benefits of trying to eat healthier.

5. Cholesterol levels

A heart-healthy diet can border cholesterol naturally.

Getty Images

Harvard reports that one in every six Americans has high cholesterol, making them twice as likely to develop heart disease. But, cholesterol isn't all bad -- it plays an incredibly critical role in your body. It's found in every cell, and plays a critical role in creating the cell membrane that protects all the good stuff inside.

Typically, when people talk about "cholesterol," they're usually referring to LDL, or "bad" cholesterol. There's also HDL, or "good," total cholesterol, and triglycerides.

I'm starting to silent like a broken record, but a healthy diet low in processed food is the best suitable treatment for high cholesterol. Exercising and quitting smoking also help. Cholesterol naturally rises with age, so if a time machine is ever designed that could be a good bet too. If your levels are peaceful high after trying self-treatment, a doctor can prescribe medicine to help.

How to measure: Head to your doctor and ask to get a blood panel. That will give you a detailed report on all these different levels, and comprehensive guidelines can tell you if any are too high.

6. Inflammation

Inflammation can sometimes portray itself as joint pain.

Getty Images

Inflammation is new necessary bodily function that can sometimes go too far. It's a primary immune process involving white blood cells. For example, if you cut your finger chopping veggies,  an inflammatory response is in cost of telling white blood cells to go to the cost site and heal it, bringing along that familiar redness and swelling.

Sometimes, though, your own immune system can turn against you. Inflammation isn't a particularly well derived phenomenon, but the Johns Hopkins Health Review reports it's a accepted factor in several common diseases, such as arthritis, depressed disease, and even cancer.

Inflammation has been linked to a injure response, so if you notice more swelling it could be a good indicator of irritable health. Meditation, taking daily walks, and getting better sleep can all help you wait on stress on a daily basis. Another culprit may be your diet, and comprising more anti-inflammatory foods can help.

How to measure: This health marker is a bit harder to quantify, but if you have too much inflammation, it may show up in your body as redness, swelling and pain around joints. Other indicators include psoriasis (dry, flaky skin), and chronic bloating.

Samsung's next Unpacked is just hours away, communication a new batch of Galaxy S phones are probable arriving soon, too. The event, which is set for 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) on Wednesday, will almost certainly show off the Galaxy S23, the Galaxy S23 Plus and the top-spec Galaxy S23 Ultra. That is, if rumors are to be believed.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 lineup has aboard some of our top phones from 2022. The base S22 is an impressive, more-affordable option, the S22 Plus is a honorable all-rounder and the all-powerful S22 Ultra has blown us away with its stellar camera militaries. We gave both the Plus and the Ultra an Editors' Choice Award.

If Samsung contains the pattern it's followed for the last three generations, we can expect to see a base model and Plus and Ultra variants in contradiction of. We'll know more on Feb. 1 at Samsung Unpacked, but here's what we're expecting based on rumors, leaks and the company's remaining product launches. As for what we want to see from the Galaxy S23 lineup, longer battery life and more clever camera features are at the top of the list.

Galaxy S23 reduction date

Samsung will likely announce the Galaxy S23 series during its next Unpacked detain on Feb. 1, which will take place in San Francisco. The event announcement follows previous leaks, including this report from Korean newspaper JoongAng Daily, suggesting an early February launch for the Galaxy S23. A Jan. 6 tweet by prominent leaker Ice Universe also claimed to show a Galaxy Unpacked teaser image with a date of Feb. 1.

Whether the phones are available in stores to buy that month is latest matter, as global supply chains are still struggling and it's possible that there may be a longer expect than usual. But Samsung is already offering promotions for customers in the US who want to withhold a phone early. You'll get $50 in Samsung credit if you sign up to reserve one diagram or $100 if you ask to reserve two.

The S22 Ultra has had some fierce competition this year, comprising from Google's Pixel 7 Pro.

Galaxy S23 models and sizes

We firmly demand Samsung to continue its strategy of launching multiple requested models, each with different specs and prices to titillating to a wide variety of people. Based on Samsung's history, we're confident we'll see an entry level Galaxy S23 model, a step-up S23 Plus with a larger screen and the top-end S23 Ultra. It's the Ultra that will pack the best tech, comprising extra cameras, the biggest display and almost certainly the S Pen stylus.

Samsung's Unpacked detain invitation also includes what appear to be three spotlights, which may be a subtle nod to three new incoming Galaxy models.

Samsung's next Unpacked hide is taking place on Feb 1. We're expecting to learn near the Galaxy S23 lineup.

Samsung

Reputable leaker Ice Universe posted a detailed rundown of the sizes of the three upcoming phones (via GSM Arena), which put them almost exactly in line with the unique sizes of the S22 lineup. As such, we don't seek information from any notable differences in screen sizes of any of the draw over the predecessors.

Those were 6.1 inches for the Galaxy S22, 6.6 inches for the S22 Plus and 6.8 inches for the S22 Ultra.

Galaxy S23 price

Assuming Samsung launches multiple models, the S23 range will come at three main prices. We don't expect Samsung to stray too far from last year's prices. For reference, the base S22 launched with a impress of $800, while the Plus model started at $1,000 and the high-performance S22 Ultra debuted at $1,200 in the US last February.

The S22 draw came in three sizes and we expect the S23 lineup will too.

Lisa Eadicicco

Galaxy S23 cameras

The cameras look like they distinguished be one of the key areas of focus for the new series. In a Jan. 17 blog post, the head of Samsung's mobile recognized business, T.M. Roh, teased the camera improvements that we can seek information from to see.

"Our pro-grade camera system is getting smarter, offering the best photos and videos in any appetizing among our Galaxy smartphones," he wrote.

That's likely to be especially true for the Ultra model, which is usually where Samsung's biggest camera innovations can be counterfeit. We expected the S22 Ultra to include a whopping 200-megapixel image sensor, considering Samsung has launched two of these image sensors and they can be counterfeit in other phones. We didn't see it on the S22 Ultra, but it seems likely that a 200-megapixel sensor will be one of the key bragging abilities of the S23 Ultra. Ice Universe also predicts that the Galaxy S23 Ultra's will have a 200-megapixel sensor. That seems especially likely considering Samsung just announced a new 200-megapixel image sensor for smartphones.

In our demonstrations, the Galaxy S22 Ultra's camera performed extremely well in contradiction of both the Pixel 7 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro.

Andrew Lanxon

Samsung's progenies pages for these sensors boast not only improved resolution, but also improved low-light photography by combining sets of smaller pixels into larger individuals ones that can capture more light. The S22 Ultra is already one of the best night-time camera phones, beating out the Pixel 7 Pro in our unique tests, so a further burst to its low-light prowess is provocative to hear.

That massive resolution will also help with the phone's zoom amenities, which are already impressive thanks to its 10x optical zoom lens. Recent rumors from Ice Universe suggest that the lens lineup will remained the same across all phones, but that extra resolution must help make zoom shots even more pin-sharp.

There's a chance we distinguished also see a slight change in the camera's compose, at least on the Galaxy S23 Plus and potentially the Galaxy S23. Rumors from reputable leakers Ice Universe and Steve Hemmerstoffer suggest that the new devices could have circular cutouts for the camera lenses that sit frank on the back of the device rather than on a camera module. The Galaxy S22 Ultra already has a camera like this, but Hemmerstoffer's leak suggests this style could make its way to the Plus model as well.

Take a look at the photos of the Galaxy S22 Ultra anti the Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 below to see what I mean.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra (left), Galaxy S22 Plus (middle) and Galaxy S22 (right).

Lisa Eadicicco

Galaxy S23 battery, processor and other specs

The Galaxy S23 range will almost certainly use the unexperienced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. In continue years, Samsung used its own Exynos chips for its European models. But a recent Qualcomm earnings call suggested that Samsung will in fact be comical Qualcomm's silicon for every phone in the range.

As for anunexperienced specs, we expect a minimum of 8GB of RAM on the base models, with 12GB being available on the S23 Ultra. Storage is liable to continue to start at 128GB, with higher capacity options populate available at higher prices. And no, we don't query a return of the microSD card slot to expand the storage. Sad face.

Recent Federal Communications Commission certifications show that the base S23 will have a 3,900-mAh battery, a step up from the 3,700 mAh of the base S23, after the S23 Plus will also get a battery boost to 4,700 mAh. There's no official figure for the Ultra model yet, but alongside Ice Universe suggests that it will have the same 5,000-mAh cell size as the S22 Ultra.

We'll liable know more as Feb. 1 gets closer. But if the rumors turn out to be proper, the Galaxy S23 lineup will probably be a naively step up from the Galaxy S22 family.

Samsung's February Unpacked own is less than a day away. The event, scheduled for 10 a.m. PT (1 p.m. ET) Wednesday at the Masonic Auditorium in San Francisco, is expected to usher in the company's latest flagship smartphone series -- the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
